Essay is derive from French word ‘essayer’ which mean “to attempt”. Essays are the piece of writing, representing one side of the argument or experiences, stories etc. Essays are very personalized. So let us learn about types of essays.
There are more than dozen types of essays, so it’s easy to get confused. basically there are four major types of informal essays which are explained below:
Types of Informal Essays:
In narrative essay, writers narrate / tells a real incident, story about their life experience. It may sound easy to tell the story in essay but this is the most challenging task for the students to think and write about themselves. The aim of the writer is to involve the reader in this story as they are also the part of this. That’s why in narrative essay writers used ‘I’ word to give the reader a feeling of being a part of the story. A well written narrative essay also has a conclusion made by personal statement.
In descriptive essay the writer defines a person, place, object, special event or a memory. This essay is not just about to describe the thing, but the challenging task is that the writer has to draw a picture through his or her words. In this type of essay writer not have to tell the thing only but have to present it by interesting words. A descriptive essay is well written when the reader feels the same emotions of the writer, that what he / she is feeling while writing this work.
In this type of essay a writer have to show a balanced study of a topic. To write such an essay, the writer must have real and wide knowledge about the topic. There is no need of writer’s feelings or emotions in an expository essay. It is completely based on facts, statistics, examples.
The purpose of the Persuasive essay is to convince the reader towards writer point of view. Writer have to present both aspect of the arguments but the aim is to convince the reader that He or She is at writer’s side and completely agree with the writer point of view.
